Description
This work focuses on creating a "smart room," an analytics platform to collect and mine Doctor-
Patient interactions in order to gather a wealth of thus-unexplored medical data. We believe that, beyond the
traditional measurements such a blood pressure or test results, the clinical interview itself can provide heretofore-
unexplored insights into patient well being. For instance, one might be interested in the physical (non-verbal)
signals issued by the patient, which are otherwise lost in the traditional clinical interview, or perhaps in the
intangible verbal tone/sentiment expressed by patient and physician alike. It is precisely this problem that the
University of Arizona's Wired Room project seeks to address. In this abstract, we will focus specifically on facial
expression analysis within this context using a deep learning approach.
